Hendersonville sits along the shore of Old Hickory Lake northeast of Nashville, on Central Basin limestone soil that's been reshaped by decades of lakefront and near-lake subdivision development since the reservoir was built in the 1950s. The lake's proximity also means higher humidity and occasional flooding-adjacent moisture issues for garages built close to the shoreline, a factor that doesn't apply the same way in Nashville proper.
